It is martyrdom anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi। On this day, the great servant of humanity was shot dead for his selfless services as those envied him could not bear the essence of his goodness spreading among the heart and souls of all beyond the barriers of caste, religion, nationality and everything that fragmented the humanity. In fact, his martyrdom was in the same line of tradition in which the evils of human race have been exacting the tolls out of the sacred blood of great souls like Jesus and others in the long history of humanity. On this we mourn the departure of that great son of India who became father of a modern nation that owes its freedom of soul from the shackles of spiritual colonization. India’s freedom from the British Rule was an outcome numerous colours of sacrifices of great Indians of that period, however, Gandhi’s contribution in this freedom struggle was of a different kind. His was an effort to free Indians from the spiritual bondage of its own as well as that was imposed by the colonial masters of the day. India in those days was not only a colony of The Great Britain in administrative and economic sense; rather it was also a prisoner of spiritual decadence. Gandhi gave India the great weapon of charkha, satyagrah and ahimsa that became a lofty contribution of India to the world. The Indian nation that came into being in 1947 became an example of the great spiritual struggle against all type of oppression for the coming generation. The modern India was equipped with this lofty ideal of ahimsa and satyagrah that was not bookish, but that was evolved of the long and sustained usage in the life of a great personality and a nation itself. The day Gandhi was shot in his chest was the day of the birth of that sublime realization of the solidness of the spiritual message of a great life that was to guide India and the whole world in days to come. Who was aware of the fact that the life of Gandhi would be guiding the spiritual evolution of personalities on the other part of the globe that has been so different from the cultural stream of the land of Gandhi? In this century of widespread strife and conflict, the Gandhian ethos is reflecting its hues in the life and philosophy of a man who aspired to be the president of the US. Today, Mahatma Gandhi is one of the most influential personality of modern era. On this sad(but auspicious) day we remember him for lighting up the lamp of compassion and humanness towards all. This is the day of showing love to everyone irrespective of anything that withholds one loving the other. His memories flushes out all dirt of ill-will, revenge and retribution.
